Parksville Interchange cut May 5, 2012

Below were the Completed Cuts of 2012

NANAIMO
Sunday, June 10 1:00-3:00 p.m. We can meet at the parking lot at the corner of Westwood and E. Wellington Roads at 1:00 p.m. I would like to do a maintenance cut between E. Wellington and Northfield along the Parkway Trail. Contact person: Judy Boserio info@broombusters.org

Sunday - 10-12:00 Hwy 4 Qualicum Beach/ Hilliers
(on Hwy 4 towards Port Alberni past exit #61/ Qualicum&Hwy19) Start near the Welcome to Arrowsmith Sign on Hwy 4 before railroad tracks. We had cleared 8 km from the Ocean last year. We want it to be permanently clear! We'll continue of Coombs Country Junction area - Hwy 4 & 4A in all directions, depending on turn out.

SATURDAY - PARKSVILLE - Sat June 9; 9:30-11:30. Interchange #51, 2nd Parksville exit off of Hwy 19. Alberni Hwy. Let’s finish the two triangle of land beside Hwy 19. It is possible! You can park at the Train station or along Alberni Hwy on the Errington side of Hwy 19 or on the underpass. PARK SAFELY.

WEDNESDAY - QUALICUM BEACH / Hilliers/ Coombs Wed, June 6 10-12:00 Intersection of Hwy 4 and Hwy 4 A at Coombs Country Junction. (Where the road to Port Alberni & roads to QB and Parksville meet) We worked there previous years and it needs another cut.

TUESDAY - ERRINGTON: Alberni Hwy. Tuesday, June 5 10-12:00 Start at the Welcome to Arrowsmith sign, across from Pet-Mania at Bellevue. If you can’t come at that time, you can cut anywhere you want on Alberni. 12 people attended!

WEEK OF June 2-7

NANAIMO
Sunday, June 3. 11:00-1:30  Woodgrove Centre/ Nanaimo Parkway (Hwy 19) between Aulds & Mary Ellen Drive.  Meet in the parking lot between the Mall and Hwy 19, behind Walmart. Anyone is welcome – including Parksville & Qualicum Beach people.  We’re actually working with the Woodgrove Centre folks.  They’re helping to promote the cut.  Thank you Woodgrove Centre!  We so much appreciate individuals and business working together.

• Comox Valley
Wednesday May 30th 9:30-11:30 am : We'll continue working in the 150 Year Grove (at the corner of Lerwick and Malahat). Park on Crown Isle Drive at the back of the park or on Monarch Cres.

Saturday June 2nd 9:30-11:30 am: We're going to tackle Hwy 19A starting at Ryan Road and working towards the 17th Street bridge. Park in the SuperStore lot along Hwy 19A at the far end (look for the signs and the broom!) Make sure you check in and get your safety vest.


PARKSVILLE
Sat June 2 9:30-12:00.  Parksville.  Island Hwy & Resort Road area. We need 40 volunteers!  Park on Resort Drive behind Esso Station.  If late, look for Broombusters. On June 2nd, we need 40 people!

PARKSVILLE PARKSVILLE PARKSVILLE
Sat May 26, 10-12 Parksville
on Hwy19A, Inland Island Hwy. Meet at Visitors Center.  We will cut along Hwy 19 in both directions.  First the Golden Loppers will be awarded to Parksville for the great turnout at the 1st Parksville interchange last weekend.  Then we pick up our loppers and get rid of the broom along Inland Hwy in both directions!

QUALICUM BEACH QUALICUM BEACH
Sun May 27, 10-12 Qualicum Beach.
 Meet at the parking lot on Memorial Road - at the Powerlines (half way between the interchange and the roundabout.)
There is lots of broom there, but we can also send out scouts to cut the broom on Village Way and Rupert.  People will be driving into town in preparation for the parade at 12:00.  We want to be visible!  Let me know if you can come.

ERRINGTON/ COOMBS
Errington
- "Clear Alberni Hwy" Goal.  Please join Julian Fell, Joanne and other in cutting the broom from the Welcome to Arrowsmith sign down to the Motorcycle Shop. It would only take 10 people. Can you help?

NANAIMO - Cut Broom in Bloom
Saturday, May 26, 1-3:00   Hwy 19 at Aulds Road, on Staples corner.  Park near Staples. Tools supplied.  It's fun!  Stop the spread.  We need you!  

• Sunday, May 27th from 1 - 3 pm: 150 Year Grove (the park at the corner of Lerwick and Malahat). Park across the street at Mark Isfeld School or behind the park on Crown Isle Drive.

May 18, 19, 20: Fearlessly Taking on the Big Broom at the Parksville Interchanges!
Friday 11-2:00  Second Parksville Exit #51.  
Park at train station on Alberni Hwy.
Saturday 10-2:00 First Parksville Exit # 46.  
Park at weigh station on Kerr Road.

• Comox Valley
• Monday May 21st (That's right...Victoria Day) from 9:30 - 11:30 we'll be working along Ellenor Road from where it joins Anderton and heading out to the ferry. The shoulders are narrow here and parking will be tight so park carefully. We'll need to string our cars out a bit along the road. I'll be all the way around the curve - look for the Broombuster sign by my car.

• Wednesday, May 16th 9:30 - 11:30 am We'll be continuing to cut along Ryan Road East. Park on Greenwood Crescent (the first left off Ryan past Anderton). There are blackberries mixed in with the broom so wear long sleeves and long pants.

• Saturday, May 19th from 10 am - noon: Anderton Road starting at Ryan Road and working our way
towards the ferry terminal at Little River.

• Nanaimo -
Saturday May 19. 10:00-12:00 Northfield Road at Hwy 19.
Park in the large parking area.
Cutting along the Parkway Trail in both directions.

Weekend of May 12-13
• Qualicum Beach
.... Sunday May 13 from 1:00-3:00
We'll be cutting under the powerlines. The powerlines cross Memorial halfway between the Qualicum Beach interchange (exit 60), and the traffic circle. There are small parking lots on either side of Memorial Road, close to the information bulletin board parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes! We'll be walking a few hundred yards off the road. We don't want that area to become thick with broom.

Coombs - Virginia Estates - Saturday May 12 from 1:00-3:00 Meet at Alberni Hwy at Virginia Road (it goes into Virginia Estates). It's just up the road toward Parksville from the Coombs Market.

•Coombs - Alberni Hwy - Monday from 10:00-12:00
Meet again at Virginia Road and we'll go up Alberni Hwy.

• Nanaimo -
Saturday May 12, 10-12:00 Neck Point. Meet at the main parking lot. A beautiful park on the ocean.

• Comox Valley
May 9th, Wednesday from 10 am - noon along Sheraton walkway. Park along
Sheraton Road (off McDonald Road) and look for the signs.

Saturday May 12, 10-12:00
We'll be tackling Ryan Road, beginning at Anderton and working east towards CFB Comox. Park safely and look for the BroomBuster signs.

• Qualicum Beach.... Saturday May 5 from 10:00 - 12:00
Qualicum / Hwy 19 Interchange Exit 60 (at Memorial). Look for us on any of the loops of the interchange. Big broom!

• Parksville
Friday May 4 from 1:00-3:00. 
Parksville/ Hwy 19 Interchange Exit 51

Courtenay. Saturday May 5 from 10-12:00.  Piercy Creek Greenway.  Drive south along Piercy Ave from 26th Street and park along Piercy or Galloway Crescent. The paved trail begins at the end of Piercy Ave.
