2017 Planned Cuts for Nanaimo

Tools are provided. Wear gloves & sturdy shoes & bring water.  You are welcome at any or all events! It does not matter where you live.

Completed Cuts from Nanaimo

May 6th, 09:30-11:30  Saturday. The triangle between the highways across from Pet Smart in north Nanaimo
May 7th Sunday, 9:30-11:30.  Third St. Park

May 9th Tuesday 9:30-11:30 There will be a broombust on Biggs Road near the second entrance to Deerwood.
May 10, Wednesday 9:00-11:00  The corner of the old highway and Oliver Road.  Park at Canadian Tire and walk down.

May 13, Saturday, 9:30 am – 11:30 am  Highway southbound @ Ware Road
May 13, Saturday 9:30-11:30   Oceanview Park.  To get to this park from Hammond Bay Rd. turn onto Yorkshire Terrace, left onto Norton Rd, left onto Laguna Way and you will drive down and the park is on the right.
May 19th, Friday, 12:30 – 2:30,  Petsmart – area between northbound merge and northbound highway.  Park in the Petsmart parking lot closest to Lantzville then carefully walk across the merge lane to the “triangle” area.

Monday May 15th 6:30-8:30 p.m. 6540 Metral Drive, the vacant property between Cobbs Bread and  Central Vancouver Island Veterinary.  Park at Cobbs Bread parking lot.  Flat terrain.  Windley contracting has asked us to do this and will donate to Broombusters.

May 17th, Wednesday 6:30-8:30 p.m.  The slope on the corner of Oliver Rd. and the old highway.  Park at Canadian Tire and walk down.  Steep terrain.

May 18, Thursday 6:00-8:00 pm  Norsea Park from Hammond Bay Road turn onto Norsea Road, left onto Westdale and rt. onto Oceanview Terrace. The park is on the right.

May 17th,  Wednesday, 9:30 -11:30, Hwy 19 (northbound)  We will access the highway from the end of Wiles Rd (St. Phillips by the Sea Anglican Church).  Do not drive all the way to the gate on Wiles as there is lots of broken glass and trash bits about.

May 19th, Friday, 12:30 – 2:30,  Petsmart – area between northbound merge and northbound highway.  Park in the Petsmart parking lot closest to Lantzville then carefully walk across the merge lane to the “triangle” area.

May 21, Sunday, 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Highway southbound (north of Exit 29).  Meet at the end of Alger Rd, we will then walk along the highway from there.

May 21st Sunday, 09:30-11:30  Parkway Trail starting at the tourist bureau (Northfield Rd corner) and working north toward Mostar Rd.

May 22nd, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Metral Drive vacant property between Cobbs Bakery and the Central Vancouver Island Veterinary Clinic.  Park at Cobbs Bakery.  Windley Contracting has asked us to clear this and they will donate to Broombusters.  This is our second broombust here and we hope to finish this cut on Monday. Flat terrain.

May 24th 9:00-11:00 the vacant property on the corner of Uplands Rd. and Turner Rd. next to RBC Securities. Park at RBC Securities mall area or across the street by Northridge Gym.   Insight Developments has asked us to clear this for them and they will donate to Broombusters.  Flat terrain.

Saturday May 27th, 9:00-11:00 Oceanview Park.  We will do our final cut at the top of this park.  From Hammond Bay Road turn onto Yorkshire Terrace, left onto Norton Rd., follow Norton Rd. to the end and there is a traffic circle (you will see the area we will be cutting in  to the left).  Follow the traffic circle (one way) and park in front of the park at the top south end.  Steep slope terrain.

Saturday May 27th 11:00-3:00 p.m.drop your invasive materials to the drop zone at Bowen Park (off Wall St.).  This is a free service provided by the city.

Monday May 29th 6:30-8:30 p.m. “The Slope” corner of Oliver Road and the Old Highway.  Park at Canadian Tire.  Steep terrain.  For those that would like to help and don’t like steep there is a flat cut at the top of the hill we need to also do.  Off of Uplands Rd. drive into “Origins” and park in the visitor parking.  Walk to the back left corner of the property (corner of Oliver Rd. and the old hwy.  go behind the building and you will find us there.

Wednesday May 31st 6:30-8:30 p.m. “The Triangle”  Park at the north end of Pet Smart and cross the highway you will see us on the right.  Fairly flat terrain.

Saturday June 3rd 09-11 a.m. Harry Wipper Park/Frank Ney Elementary School.  Off of Hammond Bay Road turn onto Williamson Road and you will see the parking lot for the park on the left.  Fairly flat cut we will need to do some walking to find the broom.

Sunday June 4th 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oceanview Park.  Off of Hammond Bay Road turn onto Yorkshire Terrace, left onto Norton and follow it all the way up and around the circle to the top of the park.  This is a steepcut with enough people we hope to complete it.  Also need people who would just like to stack the broom.

Monday June 5th 6:30-8:30 p.m. vacant lot Roxboro Place.  Off of the new highway turn onto College Drive, turn onto Montclair Dr. (about the fourth street up) then rt. onto Roxboro Place.  The only vacant lot is where we will be.  The owner will be donating to Broombusters.  We cleared this property two years ago (our first donation cut ever).  He now would like some maintenance.  This is fairly flat cut with a beautiful view.

 

 

2017 Planned Cuts for Lantzville

May 31st, Wednesday 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, Petsmart triangle

June 2nd, Friday 9:30 – 11:30,   E&N Trail  (Ware Rd end)   This is a maintenance cut and will involve walking the trail.

Completed Lantzville Cuts:

May 23rd, Tuesday, 6:30 – 8:30 PM,  Harby Rd. W. – across from Pyramid Stables. This is a maintenance cut which involves small, low broom.  Bring knee pads if you have them.
May 24th, Wednesday, 6:30 – 8:30 PM,  Hwy Northbound at end of Wiles Rd. This is a continuation of a cut last week.  We should be able to complete this area, with at least 5 volunteers!
May 25th, Thursday, 6:30 – 8:30 PM,  Aulds Rd, at top of Phillip. This is an easy maintenance cut which will involve some walking along Aulds toward Red Door Yoga.
May 27th, Saturday, 9:30 – 11:30,  E&N Trail – Aulds Rd end. This is an easy maintenance cut which will involve walking the trail.
May 28th, Sunday 9:30 – 11:30,  Hwy southbound between Ware Rd and Exit 29  – meet at the end of Alger Rd then walk along highway toward Ware
May 30th, Tuesday 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM, Hwy southbound between Ware Rd and Exit 29 – same as above
