April 17th Monday.  2:00 - 4:00 Parkway trail starting at the tourist bureau working north toward Northfield Rd.

April 22nd Saturday - Oceanview Park 9:30 - 11:30

April 23rd Sunday. Oceanview Park 9:30 - 11:30

April 27th Thursday. Norsea Park 6:30 - 8:30 pm

May 6th 09:30-11:30 Saturday.   The triangle between the highways across from Pet Smart in north Nanaimo

May 7th Sunday .  Third St. Park 9:30-11:30

May 21st Sunday. 09:30-11:30   Parkway Trail starting at the tourist bureau and working north toward Mostar Rd.

Oceanview Park - Saturday April 23. 9:30-11:30
From Hammond Bay Rd turn up the hill on to Yorkshire Terrace, left on to Norton Rd, left on to Laguna Way, continue along Laguna Way, Ocean View Park will be on the right.

Northfield Park - Sunday April 24. 9:30-11:30 
At intersection of Northfield Road and Nanaimo Parkway.

 

E&N Trail - Sunday April 17th 9:30 - 11:30
(middle)  From the Aulds Rd end of the trail, drive along Clark Dr. to the end. (park here)  Walk past the yellow rope, and follow the purple ribbons along a small trail which leads to the E&N.

Please note the earlier start time for this cut.  Also, anyone can go cut any time on this property. If you do, be sure to keep track of the hours as the donation from the lot owner is based on the total number of hours spent cutting broom on property.

Saturday May 7th, Newcastle Island, 2PM ferry returning on the 4:30 ferry. (Meet at the dock at 1:45)  Once again, please let me know if you are planning to attend

Monday May 9th, Calinda St. 8:30-10:30.

Wednesday May 11th, Calinda St. 6:30-dark   We need a good turnout for Calina in order to complete it.  The seed pods are just beginning to form.

Saturday May 14 - Exit 29 at Nanaimo sign - 9:30-12:00
access via end of Alger Rd; Take Exit 28 on to Aulds Rd, left on Clark then right on Alger.  Drive to end of Alger, park here. Walk through small trail to Exit 29 and carefully cross road to Nanaimo sign.  GREAT TURN OUT! 

 

Northfield Park - Sunday May 15. 9:30-11:30.  At intersection of Northfield Road and Nanaimo Parkway.

 

May 15, 6:30-finished.  Aulds Rd
When this is done, Aulds Rd will be have been completed from the old highway through to Ware Rd. We will meet at Arbutus Crescent (Phantom Rd end).

Friday May 20th, Calinda St. 6:30 till dark.

Saturday May 21st, Calinda St. 8:30 - 10:30 AM.

Calinda Street Project is complete! 

June 4th cut (or survey) on Newcastle Island.
Parts of the island are sunny, and others are very shady which delays the onset of Broom bloom season.   1 or 2pm to 3:30  Free ferry ride is available, but must be prearranged.  So please contact Ken if interested:  martinson.ken@gmail.com

 

Nanaimo Drop Zones: Saturdays from April 23rd and May 28th at Bowen Park (lower parking lot off Wall St.) between 10am and-3 pm. You can bring invasive plants you gather from your own property - and the city will dispose of them!

We will return every Thursday to this location.

• Sunday, April 19 - Newcastle Island. Nine experienced Broombusters cut the broom on this beautiful island.
* Saturday, April 25: 10-noon     Meet at Northfield Park
* Sun. April 26:  9:30-11:30  E&N trail at Ware Rd

Tuesday, May 5, 9-11:00.  North Nanaimo - sort of near Costco. We will be continuing with the Calinda Street property. When you drive onto Calinda St. from Applecross Rd. take the road on the left and then park in the dirt parking area to the right.       

Wednesday, May 6, 6-8:00 pm.    At an empty lot on Roxboro Place. This is up by the University. Broombusters will be receiving a donation to the organization for doing this.
Directions: To get to Roxboro Place if you are driving from Nanaimo south on the new highway:
turn right on Jingle Pot Road (by the university) turn left on Calder Rd. follow Calder Rd until you get to Montclair Rd. then turn left onto Montclair; turn right onto Roxboro the only undeveloped lot is where we will be!

Sunday, May 10. 9:30-11:30. E&N Trail -where most of the broom is. Will meet at the Aulds Rd end of the trail. (exit 28 on Parkway) We have had one cut on the trail and Lantzville has already picked up the piles!

Tuesday, May 12. 9-11:00. E&N Trail again! We want that trail cleared. Come help! Hopefully this will finish it off! Will meet at the Aulds Rd end of the trail. (exit 28 on Parkway)

Wed. May 13th Roxboro Place 6:00-8:00 PM. The only undeveloped lot is where we will be!
We need to finish this off! Come and enjoy the view while you cut. This is a private, empty lot up by the University. Broombusters will be receiving a donation for clearing this lot.
To get there, if you are driving from Nanaimo south on the Parkway: take Exit 16 (VIU) turn right on to College Dr.,follow College Dr. then turn right on to Montclair Dr., then turn right on Roxboro.

Thurs. May 14th Lantzville/Schook Rd 9:30-11:30
Park near Schook Rd so we can finish the area near Petsmart.

We have permission to access the middle of the trail through some private property.
From the Aulds Rd end of the trail, drive along Clark Dr. to the end. (park here)
Walk past the yellow rope, and follow the purple ribbons along a small trail which leads to the E&N.

Wednesday May 20th E&N trail 6:00-8:00pm
same location as above. We would REALLY like to get the E&N finished this week!
Please let me know if you are able to make either one of the above cuts.

Thurs. May 21st Lantzville/Schook Rds. 9:30-11:30am
We are very close to finishing the area by Petsmart.

Nanaimo Cuts Completed by small groups:
Carmanagh Way Park one large pile in the trees.

Firehall (corner of Uplands/Hammond Bay) ten piles in back and one in front.

New library/wet house Uplands Rd. one pile between the wet house parking lot and the library.

Uplands Rd. (between Hammond Bay and Dover Rd.) many large piles beside the sidewalk. 

Blueback Park one small pile behind the concrete barriers on the side.

McGirr Park large piles along McRobb Rd.  Two/ three other large piles on the high school side of the baseball complex along the asphalt path.

Calinda St. also has about ten large piles beside the sidewalk.

Thurs. May 21st Lantzville/Schook Rd 9:30-11:30 There is a very small area to complete near Petsmart. We will then move further down Lantzville Rd to continue on with our previous cuts.

Sun. May 24th E&N Trail 9:30-11:30
We have permission to access the middle of the trail through some private property.

Walk past the yellow rope, and follow the purple ribbons along a small trail which leads to the E&N.

HOPEFULLY we will get a good turnout so we can finish the trail with this cut. This will be the last cut as the seed pods are forming rapidly in this warm weather. Lets make it our GRAND FINALE!

Monday May 25 - Newcastle Island. THIS CUT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Climate change. There are already too many seeds in sunny places - two weeks earlier than normal.

Drop Zones: May 8th and May 31 at Bowen Park between 12-4 pm. You can bring invasive plants you gather from your own property - and the city will dispose of them! Ivy, broom, gorse - anything. No charge.
