2007 Successes:
Village Way, which was lined with Scotch broom from Memorial Road to Old Island Hwy, has been mostly cleared of broom. The work was completed by about 8 Qualicum volunteers, with the involvement of Kwalicum High School Students.
Volunteers also cut huge patches of broom in the:
Arbutus/ Claymore Area
All areas around the Civic Center and pool
On Rupert Road and Bennit, near the airport
At Arrowsmith Elementary

2006 Successes:
The focus of 2006 was Memorial Road, from Hwy 19 to downtown Qualicum. Volunteers removed the broom that was lining that long road.
Broombusters cut along roads in Qualicum for 5 weeks in a row. We're happy to say that in 2007 - the broom did not return!

Qualicum is blessed with a very supportive town council and staff. The broom branches were just laid beside the road, and then the town staff came to pick up the broom and dispose of it. They make it so easy!

Thanks especially to Council Member Wendy Maurer for her continuing support; to Al Cameron and Tony Bothelo in Public Works; and to Qualicum Mayor Teunis Westbroek who enjoyed a Saturday afternoon of broombusting on May 19.
